what’s stored in the memory?

Here’s a little lesson from techie hubby on memory, computer memory that is coz I recently asked him about it. My notebook has only 768M RAM, way too little compared to the new ones coming out, three times more than what my notebook has!
What’s stored in the memory? According to him, memory stores current programs running in the computer such as the operating system, outlook, opera, internet explorer, yahoo messenger, etc. Since I am fond of multi-tasking, I simultaneously open plenty of programs making my notebook sluggish. Should I get a new notebook? Hmmm…. As of now, I have other important expenses coming up. Buying a new notebook isn’t in my priority list. I’ll just have to make do with what I have.
