too big for the mailbox

Someone buzzed at our door earlier followed with series of knocking. As my rule, I don’t open our door whenever someone buzzes especially when I’m not expecting a visitor.
Later when hubby arrived, we learned it was the caretaker of the building who wanted to give the package that was sent for my hubby. There are residential mailboxes downstairs for all tenants of the building but I’m not sure why he was the one handing it to us and not the postman.

But seeing how big the packages were, it surely wouldn’t fit any mailboxes even the commercial mailboxes.
